Zoe Crosher

I am loving Zoe Crosher's style in photography as she captures dramatic/minimal pictures with an added natural ingredient in her shots. Among many of my favorites from her photo collections, the photo you see above ("The Pool I Shot in Hollywood") is provocative enough for a midnight swim with a calming cooling factor that calls to me loudly!

Christina Koski

"Nassau Av G Train" by New York based artist Christina Koski. This is one of those pieces that momentarily takes you there. A painting you can find refuge in, and day dream for bit.

I am also interested to know what is her approach behind her work to end up with such great pieces. But I will surely keep a look out for more of her amazing art of New York landscapes for me to indulge on.

In Search Of Lighting

"All it takes is one moment for everything to change", that's how I can describe the art of Lia Halloran, and much to my delight I just discovered it. Lia Halloran is a skater artist from Los Angeles that went through great lengths to create and capture these masterpieces.

I Love Dust

Last night I was looking for website templates and website designers, etc, etc, as I stumbled upon a site that promotes website and graphic designers. They had ILoveDust.com as their featured website, so I decided to research further and check out their site. What immediately caught my eyes was this beautiful colorful cover they did for a bicycle journal called "The Ride". Though the book does not interest me, I would only buy it just to have that amazing cover.

If I could live inside art or any illustration I would like to live inside this picture and explore it, see where all those walking traffic lights are going to, or better yet take a little adventure and see where they came from. I could also sit on the sidewalk and be entertained just by watching it all unfold.

Check out their site whenever you have a chance, you can tell just by homepage how much they pay attention to colors and detail .

Pride Clothing!

With the booming of new shirt lines coming out, Pride Clothing was among the few that caught my attention so far this year. I know you might be thinking that you are tired of everyone's cousin coming out with a clothing line every other day, but this small line has something special and the main idea sets them apart from others.

A lot of these small start-ups just buy $3.50 to $5.50 t-shirts, slap paint on them, and mark them up to 20 to 30 bucks while having basic or mediocre designs and ideas. These small "companies" sell nothing but shirts and hoodies because that's all they can get from their wholesaler and in result they call it a "clothing line". They get their local friends to buy and model the shirts to later start a Myspace, Facebook, Xanga (or social site alike) account to promote and try to create a buzz and capture instant fame.

Months later you just find an old Myspace account that has not been updated in months without any new photos posted or new shirts made. Ultimately the shirt business that was based from their garage is over with.

There are some that try other outlets, like etsy. They hope to get good revenue and a bigger buzz along with etsy fame, but they find out 12 shirts later that it's over and that their 15 minutes on etsy are gone. Unless you are friends of etsy employees or are from Portland, or they happen to like you to over-advertise your shop, you wont get a good revenue (read the bykali post to know how I feel about etsy).

Last and not least is eBay. I know people make a lot of money selling shirts on eBay but you will be a slave to selling unofficial shirts, or shirts with tacky cheesy quotes.

Pride Clothing's LA pride shirts and accessories are different in their approach. First, their selling advantage is their theme and main idea. That idea attracts all L.A lovers, residents and natives, who want to show their "L.A pride". Not only does Pride Clothing have a good concept on their back, but they are actually putting effort to sell other items aside from just printed t-shirts. Their advertising and marketing strategies are also paying off for them. I like Pride Clothing not just because I am from Los Angeles and I have to write a post about "Los Angeles" but for the fact that there is a lot of work behind this small company and it shows.

The very fact that these shirts are being carried by actual stores is another good example. This tells me there is a lot of footwork involved, and whoever is behind that is currently trying constantly to sell the items to as many stores and shops at all costs. It is important for me to point that out, because their product selling process is done the old- fashioned way and there is actual real work involved, rather then giving away shirts to your friends in hopes someone will see it and in result market itself .

To the owner I say this: Your work ethic is definitely paying off and is an inspiration to me!. If you are from L.A and want to show your pride and represent! Do it! Get yours!

Fashion's first eco magazine!

Yesterday I was getting my fix of magazine reading at Borders and came across Boho. I guessed immediately that it was printed with soy ink and on eco-friendly recycled material by the feel and the non-glossy look the magazine had (I have seen this before in a surfer magazine a couple years ago). I knew I was right when I read on the cover "100 % re-cycled, re-styled, re-used", and "fashion's first eco magazine!"

As I browsed through the pages, right away I liked the look and direction the magazine was heading. My only concern was that they might get stuck in this hippie or bohemian style that a lot of the eco-conscious clothing lines stay in. The articles are great, along with the eco saving tips and all the ideas they have shown in this issue. Just the fact that they use the recycled paper and soy ink makes it worth my time. This should be a good example for printed magazines to take the extra step and follow in Boho’s footsteps.

Boho may not be here to save the day, and may not be here to start a revolution, but it is definitely heading in the right direction. As long as they keep coming up with good articles and different styles of fashion are showcased, I will keep reading. With that being said, what are you waiting for? get your copy!

bykali Buckles

The bykali buckles are the best buckles I have seen in a long, long time. Not only are they handmade but they are made well and are oozing with style and aesthetics.

I am not a big fan of Etsy, to me it seems Etsy mainly advertises everyone in Portland( that is to say everyone they are friends with) on that site, or friends of their friends. For example: When I go to etsy.com I keep seeing the same 2 shirt companies or the same 2 pillows/accessories shops getting over-advertised on their site and not giving other shops more exposure. Out of all the artists they have featured I would say only a very few are worth even mentioning. And the ones that need to be featured are not.

With that being said and without getting sidetracked of what this post is about, Kali Mellus is an amazing artist that took an idea and made it work. From using nails, industrial materials, to leaves covered by resin, every piece has great detail and craftsmanship. Just the way every piece is made like the "Nail Burst" (pictured above) makes me jealous of her craftsmanship skills and wishing I could make such amazing pieces of art. If you happen to be browsing around in the wonderful etsy.com site, make sure you look at the bykali shop for more awesome buckles.

Sasha's return with Involver2 does not disappoint

My first subject to post about here in this site is music, and is because I have been fueled and inspired by this CD all week. Invol2ver is Sasha's second installment in the series and his return to Global Underground.

Creative, inspiring, calming, moving, infectious; I can go on and on about Sasha's latest mix in Invol2ver, you also will notice he is back with his signature style and soothing electronic mixes that made him famous in the first place. The CD starts with a song from Telefon Tel Aviv which Sasha remixed to his liking and made a perfect beginning to the album. The CD has other highlights as well including tossing Ladytron in the mix to give it a nice change of pace in the middle of the album.

The whole CD to me is beautiful all the way to the packaging and album cover. Maybe I pay to much attention to packaging design and graphic design... but to me it does matter, and it makes a difference. All and all if you are a fan of electronic music and want to listen to something well composed from beginning to end, give Invol2ver a listen, you will not be disappointed! I believe it to be one of the best, if not the best, CD's of this genre this year.
